How To

How to make the perfect omelet

Omelets are one of my favorite foods to eat at breakfast. But how do they turn out so perfectly? Many different recipes and methods have failed to work for me. Today, I'd like to share some tips with you in order to make delicious and fluffy omelets every day.

When making omelets, it is important to be aware that eggs can be temperamental. Eggs must be purchased fresh, preferably organic, and kept chilled until ready for cooking. If you don't keep them cold enough, the whites won't form properly, and the yolks will break down too much and become runny. This makes your omelets look weirdly colored. If you intend to cook your eggs immediately, it's best to use room-temperature egg.

Another tip is to separate each egg before adding them to the saucepan. The yolk and white should not be mixed together as this can cause the omelet's curdle.

You might burn the bottom of the egg if you place the egg directly on the stovetop. This could ruin the texture of your omelet. Instead, place the egg in the microwave for 10 second before you put it in the skillet. The microwave heat cooks the eggs just right without overcooking them.

Let's now talk about mixing eggs. You want to mix the eggs thoroughly before you add them. You can do this by turning the bowl of your mixer upside down. Next, shake the bowl vigorously. By doing this, the egg is thoroughly mixed with the air in the bowl.

Now comes the fun part - pouring the milk into the mixture. Mix half of the milk with the eggs. Then fold the eggs in half into the remaining milk. Don't worry if there are still streaks of egg visible; these streaks will disappear once you flip the omelet.

After you have folded the eggs, heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Once the oil has started to sizzle, turn the heat down to low. Add 1/4 cup butter to the oil and swirl it around to coat all sides of the pan. Now carefully crack open the lid of the pan and sprinkle salt into the pan. An additional pinch of salt will prevent the omelet form sticking to your pan.

Once the omelet has formed, cover the pan again and wait for the top side to set completely. Flip the omelet by using a spatula. Cook the other side for another minute or two. Take out the omelet and place it in a bowl.

This recipe works best using whole milk. Skimmed milk is also possible.
